For those of us who fantasize about being stranded on a desert island, the Castaway Necklace is just what you want to be wearing! A creamy, antique white, carved peony hangs from a strand of coconut wood and blond wood rondelle beads. The necklace is finished with antique brass and antique gold-plated chain and findings.
The peony pendant used in this necklace is carved from faux "cinnabar." True cinnabar is no longer used in jewelry, as it contained mercury, a toxin which could be absorbed through the skin. Faux, or imitation "cinnabar" is currently made from either wood, covered by multiple layers of lacquer, or from resin, and carved into intricate patterns.
